Recently, my housemate decided that she wanted to lose some weight. So, we’ve bought anything that is low-sodium, less sugar, low-fat, no-fat, low-carb etc. But there is one thing that I have come to despise, and have realized you cannot skimp upon: Peanut Butter.
I went to make a sandwich the other day, and I applied a generous helping of peanut butter (low sodium, 33% less sugar than the next leading brand.) I added my sugar-free raspberry preserves, put the two halves of my sandwich together, and took a bite. Much to my chagrin, it tasted like dirt. Peanut and raspberry flavored dirt. Not realizing that the fact that there was less sugar in my peanut butter would make it taste like actual peanuts, I had loaded the sandwich with peanut butter like normal. This was my biggest mistake.
If there is one thing I have learned, it is that Peanut Butter is one thing that you really just can’t skimp on. I’ve bought generic brands before, and regretted it. And now, I will never be able to purchase “healthy” peanut butter again. Gimme the regular JIF brand loaded with sugar, fat, sodium, and preservatives!! I’ll die of a coronary if that means that I get to have my peanut butter!!
Just don’t tell my housemate that I’m buying the regular stuff. She’d kill me.
