#problemsofabiologymajor

Have you ever had the feeling that maybe things weren’t going to go your way, no matter how hard you strived for the contrary?
Yea, that’s kind of how I feel about being a biology major. Like, every time I go to study for my lecture, and I feel like I actually grasp the information, the test comes along and just ruins all my hopes and dreams for becoming a doctor… I just want to be that super smart kid that answers all of my professors questions correctly
Sigh. Maybe I’ll just be a marketing major

The Weight Loss Dilemma

Recently, my housemate decided that she wanted to lose some weight. So, we’ve bought anything that is low-sodium, less sugar, low-fat, no-fat, low-carb etc. But there is one thing that I have come to despise, and have realized you cannot skimp upon: Peanut Butter.

I went to make a sandwich the other day, and I applied a generous helping of peanut butter (low sodium, 33% less sugar than the next leading brand.) I added my sugar-free raspberry preserves, put the two halves of my sandwich together, and took a bite. Much to my chagrin, it tasted like dirt. Peanut and raspberry flavored dirt. Not realizing that the fact that there was less sugar in my peanut butter would make it taste like actual peanuts, I had loaded the sandwich with peanut butter like normal. This was my biggest mistake.

If there is one thing I have learned, it is that Peanut Butter is one thing that you really just can’t skimp on. I’ve bought generic brands before, and regretted it. And now, I will never be able to purchase “healthy” peanut butter again. Gimme the regular JIF brand loaded with sugar, fat, sodium, and preservatives!! I’ll die of a coronary if that means that I get to have my peanut butter!!

Just don’t tell my housemate that I’m buying the regular stuff. She’d kill me.

Grad Students

I really should be more kind to the grad student that teaches my lecture at this time of night. I’m sure she doesn’t want to be here any more than we do… But oh my god. We are completely apathetic. I have a feeling that most of the students in this Introduction lecture are only taking it to fill a course requirement, because we all attend a liberal arts college and so we have to go cross curriculum.

Poor thing. I’m sitting here, as she’s teaching us for 2 1/2 hours, just thinking “Please shut up and just tell us to read the book. No, we don’t have any questions, we all know what you’re talking about. We’ve taken this course in high school.”

Ugh, this is why I shouldn’t take night courses.
